Background:

On December 16, 2011 Cagayan de Oro City and Iligan City, Philippines were struck by typhoon "Sendong" (international name Washi) bringing torrential rain which flooded the city of 553,996 people (2007 census). The typhoon brought over 180 mm of rainfall in 24 hours which is equivalent to more than a month's accumulation of rainfall. This is the worst flooding since 2009 with over 80% of the area submerged underwater. The death toll has reached over 1,000 people with hundreds still missing. Thousands of residents remain homeless.

To provide humanitarian assistance and relief to the victims of the recent flooding, Tsada Edmonton and Friends are organizing a flood relief drive on February 26 at 3J Variety Store, 10821 - 23 Avenue.

Monetary (cash, cheque or credit card) and in kind donations are currently being accepted. The Canadian Red Cross will be on site to collect the donations. Contact by calling 1-800-418-1111 for donations at the Edmonton Red Cross Office.
